RULES AND REGULATIONS
• This year, an early registration incentive will be offered to participants who register prior to March 11, 2011. Registrations received prior to this date will be mailed a discounted ticket. Adult and youth participants will be refunded half the cost of the admission paid (up to $8). Participants between the ages of 6 to 12 can print a free ticket from our website. Registrations received after March 11 will be subject to the full gate admission.
• Contestants are required to enter either class 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 to be eligible to enter the Twin Fiddle Class. Participants who wish to compete in the Open Class cannot participate in classes 1, 2, 3 or 4.
• The order of play will be based on the sequence of entries received. The first entry received by the Provincial Exhibition office will be the last one to play, and the last entry received will be the first one to play.
• Contestants must play the following; an OLDE TYME WALTZ, a JIG, and a BREAKDOWN, in that order. The microphone may be moved to suit the fiddler.
• Each contestant will be limited to 5 minutes.
• A piano/keyboard will be provided on stage as well as a stand-by accompanist. Contestants may use an accompanist of their own choice.
• In case of any accident beyond the player’s control, (broken string, power failure) replaying will be allowed at the judge’s discretion.
• Points will be awarded for the following: Time, Tempo (must be suitable dance style), Tone, Style, Technique, Versatility, and Overall Accuracy.
• Judges’ decisions will be final and they will not be required to explain standing.
• In the Twin Fiddle Class, contestants must play in harmony, a WALTZ, and a TUNE OF THEIR CHOICE (other than a Waltz) within 4 minute time limit.
• Gate admission to the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair is your entry fee with the exception of early registration.
