The Jumper Division of the Show tests the ability of the horses to negotiate obstacles, namely fences! The course designer has laid out a challenging course to test the horse and rider at each level of competition. Each night of the Fair features a Jumper Class which displays outstanding athleticism and horsemanship!

This year’s course designer is Manuel Esparza, an aclamied course designer from Mexico City, Mexico. Manuel has been involved in horse shows for over 25 years and has assisted the course designer for the past 4 Olympic Summer Games. Here in Canada, he has designed courses at both Spruce Meadows and the Rocky Mountain Horse Show.

Hunter classes were originally designed to identify horses that would perform well at a foxhunt. Although you won’t find any foxes at the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair, you will note that the course is designed with a natural appearance to simulate the fences and ditches you might encounter on a morning hunt. At the Royal, most Hunter classes will be held in the Westoba Agricultural Centre of Excellence during the daytime hours.

Evening Jumper Classes:

Monday night takes an entertaining approach to Jumping during the Gamblers’ Choice! Each jump is assigned a point value, according to the level of difficulty, and riders do their utmost to win by accumulating the highest number of points. And if they opt to attempt the “Wild Card” jump, they can really rack up the points!

Tuesday night the competition begins to heat up with the Manitoba Cup, sponsored by Manitoba Agriculture, Food & Rural Initiatives.

A class enjoyed by young and old is Wednesday night’s Dog & Horse Relay, sponsored by Prairie Dodge Retailers. This class features some of the beloved SuperDogs teamed up with jumping horses, competing on a modified course.

Thursday night features the coveted ATCO Cup, sponsored by the ATCO Group. The competition is fierce as horses and riders from across Canada demonstrate their speed and agility, each hoping to come out on top.

With the RBC Challenge on Friday night, the drama heightens. By now these top notch equestrian athletes have all competed and  fine tuned their skills - they are all out to win!

Saturday night is the culmination of the week of competition with the MTS Grand Prix.  The Grand Prix really showcases cream of the crop, and the competition to take home the coveted MTS Cup!
